As many of you know I have a very diverse taste in music. Clients and friends are always asking me for more information about the music I choose for my group fitness classes. I have an estimate of 3 billion playlists on my spotify, and I probably spend every moment that I’m not working out blasting music in my car, or through my headphones. I find music to be a necessary motivator for increasing my energy, motivation and drive during workouts. In fact, I am not the only person who feels this way. In 2014 the University of Queenstown published a review of titled “Does Music Really Make a Difference?”, in which they stated “ Effective use of music was found to yield significant psychological responses, physical performance, perceived exertion, and physiological functioning benefits.” Beyond the psychological effects such as increased motivation, research has shown that music can actually aid in the recovery process from exercise as well. In a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research it was concluded that “listening to motivational music during non structured recovery from intense exercise leads to increased activity, faster lactate clearance, and reduced RPE and therefore may be used by athletes in their effort to enhance recovery.” In this article I would like to share with you the top 5 underground songs and the top 5 mainstream songs that pumped me up to get the best workouts possible in 2016. Enjoy! Disclaimer: Some of these songs are older but they were awesome enough to keep me rocking this year!
